Farm to School Lessons for K-5 were developed to implement the 2014-15 Pasadena Unified School District Farm to School gardening program.
The PUSD Farm to School Lessons also reference and integrate science, health, math, and language arts. The lessons help introduce some of the new Next Generation Science Standards to students. In addition, the Farm to School Lessons utilize informational text, which is in alignment with Common Core standards that will be assessed from 2015 onward.
ToucanEd provided design and layout for this project. The 74 lesson curriculum is designed to be an easy-to-use twice-weekly lesson plan for teachers. Teacher preparation, student success skills along with explore and reflection activities are clearly identified with reference icons.
ToucanEd also designed signs to be displayed on farms asking visitors to wash their hands if they are harvesting produce. The messages on the signs were translated in three different languages—English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
